Flagstaff, AZ Train Accident, May 1908


Logger Has Head Crushed in and One Leg Cut Off Under Wheels of East Bound Santa Fe Freight at Flagstaff.

Flagstaff, Ariz., May 15.---Mert Kennedy, a lumberjack formerly employed by the Saginaw and Manistee Lumber company at Camp 3, north of Bellmont, was instantly killed and horribly mangled yesterday morning freight train on the Santa Fe near here. Kennedy had been drinking and it is supposed he attempted to board the moving freight while in an intoxicated condition. The man's left leg was cut off and his head was crushed to a pulp. At the time of his death Kennedy was employed by the Greenlaw Lumber company. He was a native of Massachusetts, thirty-three years old and was known as a hardworking man in this section for many years past.
