Kings Beach, CA Tree Falls on Car, Jun 1947
Falling Tree Crushes Man
William Albert McEuen, 21 years old of Napa, Calif., was killed instantly Friday at 5:16 p.m. and his bride of one day, Nina was slightly injured at Kings beach resort when high winds crashed a 150-foot tree across the hood of the 1930 Ford roadster in which they were riding.
Heavy limbs from the six-foot tree crushed the victim's skull and according to Constable Harry Johansen of Tahoe City, the bride escaped serious injury when she attempted to leave the car, evidently observing the falling tree. She was brought to the Washoe general hospital in Reno where she is reported suffering from shock and head abrasions. Her physician said her condition is greatly improved.
The accident occurred near the intersection of Deer st. and highway 89 where the McEuen car was traveling in the direction of Incline beach.
The injured woman was treated by physicians at the new Tahoe medical center at Brockway and was brought to Reno by the Dolly ambulance service of Tahoe City. Mr. McEuen's body was taken to Colfax Friday night.
The couple married in Reno Thursday and were spending their honeymoon at Blair's cottages near King's beach.
