Boron, CA Bomber And Fighter Collision, Dec 1944
MEDIUM BOMBER AND FIGHTER COLLIDE.
Muroc Air Field, Calif. -- Five army fliers were killed in a mid-air collision of a medium bomber and fighter plane near Boron Wednesday night, it was announced today by officials of Muroc army air field.
The names of the men killed in the Boron crash are listed by officials as follows:
Captain BENJAMIN V. DOREN, JR., 27, Walbrooke Road, Scarsdale, N.Y.
First Lieutenant HENRY M. PHILLIPS, bomber pilot, son of Mrs. Josephine Rawl, Greenville, N. C.
Technical Sergeant WILLIAM L. ECKERT, 3139 Monticito Street, Fresno, Calif.
P. E. CLAYPOOL, JR., civilian pilot, 1427 Berrington Way, Glendale, Calif.
ROBERT C. EICKSTAEDT, civilian, 301 Haven Avenue, Arcadia, Calif.
MR. CLAYPOOL, killed in the Boron crash, was a former resident of Bakersfield. He was a truck driver for Union Oil Company, charter member of the Kern County Pilots' Association. In Glendale he was test pilot for Lockheed.
