Explosion Fatal To 7 Men At Oakland, Cal.
Blast Occurs on Water Project Being Built by City of San Francisco
Oakland, Cal., June 9-Seven men were killed today in an explosion on the Heech Hetchy water project being constructed by the city of San Francisco, according to a report of Coroner Grand D. Miller.
The explosion, according to word received by Coroner Miller, occurred during the night at a point 12 miles south of Sunol.
The Heech Hetchy project, one of the great engineering feats of the century, will bring water from the high Sierras to the bay region.
All the bodies were buried under debris, according to the reports. Two of them recovered after prolonged efforts early today. Ambulances from Oakland were sent to Sunol.
A delayed blast is reported to have trapped the men. The scene of the disaster is near Calaveras dam, about 25 miles south of Oakland.
