Palm Springs, CA Car Crashes Into Bridge, Mar 1957

FIVE DIE WHEN CAR HITS BRIDGE AT PALM SPRINGS.

Palm Springs (AP) - A Colorado man and four California teen-agers were killed yesterday when their speeding car smashed into a bridge abutment near here.
The California Highway Patrol said the car, driven by DAVID M. MADDOX, 19, Garden Grove, Calif., was traveling at least 90 miles an hour when it hit the abutment.
Killed with MADDOX were:
FREDERICK STAVAST, 25, of Denver;
HOWARD S. LEWIS, 19;
JEROME F. BIELIC, 19;
and HERBERT I. PERRY, 19, all of Garden Grove.
The Highway Patrol said parts of the car were scattered for 150 feet along Highway 99. None of the five occupants was thrown from the vehicle.
