CARS HEAD-ON CRASH KILLS 4 IN S.F. AREA.
San Francisco (UP) - Four persons were killed outright early Sunday and two others were injured critically when a speeding light coupe swerved over a safety island on Bayshore Freeway and plowed head-on into an oncoming sedan.
The driver of the coupe, FRANK WALSH, 47, and a passenger in the sedan, BELEN DE SILVA were not expected to survive their injuries.
Traffic officers estimated the combined speed of the two cars at the time of impact was in excess of 120 miles an hour.
The victims who were pulled dead from the shattered wreckage of a 1957 sedan were identified as the driver, ANTONE DE SILVA, 64; FRANK SOTO, 74; SOTO'S wife, ANNIE, 65; and MARIA HERNANDEZ, 33. All were from San Leandro.
Police said WALSH, of San Francisco, was alone in his car.
