Ventura, CA Auto Crashes Through Guard Rail, Dec 1959
FIVE MEN DIE IN CRASH AT VENTURA.
Ventura, Calif. (UPI) - Five men were killed when their auto plunged through a guard rail Saturday and landed in a 30-foot deep gully. The wreckage went undetected for nearly 12 hours.
An 8-year-old boy, Michael McLean, spotted the wrecked car with the arms of the driver extending through a window and guided his mother, Louise, to it.
Coroner Nat Sullivan said it appeared all the men were killed instantly in the crash three miles south of here at the suburb of Montalvo.
The dead were all from Ventura.
They were identified as FRED W. BERGMAN, 43, the driver; RONALD GRELL; LEWIS SHUTT; WHITFORD ALLEN and LEWIS D. WILLEN, 41.
