Hartford, CT Tree Accident, Feb 1823

The American Mercury, of Hartford, Con. states that as Mr. Samuel Hurlbut, of that town, was falling a tree on Thursday last, he accidentally fell under the trunk of the tree, and was held fast by its weight until his brother (who was at work near him) had cut off the trunk, and rolled it from him. What adds to the distress of this event, Mr. Hurlbut's axe was accidentally thrust against his leg, with such violence that it cut off the small bone, and dissected a considerable part of the flesh. By the latest information, there were hopes of his life.
