Henion Block Fire

$36,000 FIRE AT ALBIA AT MIDNIGHT
ENTIRE BUSINESS BLOCK IS A TOTAL WRECK THROUGH
CARELESSNESS.
Albia, Dec 19.- The entire town turned out
at midnight to fight the flames that destroyed
the finest business block in Albia. The
Henion block is
totally wrecked. Heroic work on the part
citizens and fire company is all that saved the
business center from destruction.
The Henion block contained the business rooms
of the Webber
Dry Goods company;
Levans' millinery, $1,000;
Dr. Holselan's
$1,000; Clark
Bros' office, $1,000;
M.E. Henion's household goods.$1,000;
building, $15,000.
It is believed the fire originated in the
furnace room through the improper banking of the
fire.

Nevertheless, another serious fire occurred
later in the year, at 1 a.m. on December
18,1904, when 11 firms in the
Hennion block
suffered a combined loss of $35,000.
