Charles City, Iowa
Hart-Parr Traction Engine Company Fire
January 8, 1912
Hart-Parr Company of Charles City Suffers
$10,000 Loss.
Charles
City, Ia., Jan. 9. -- The Hart-Parr gasoline
tractor power house was burned last night.
A conservative estimate puts its loss between
$7,000 and $10,000. Nine tractors were
damaged seriously. Three thousand gallons
of oil were burned besides a large amount of
belting. On account of lack of power the
night force or today's force cannot work, but
will be ready tonight.
The fire started from an electric wire where
the insulation had worn off setting a can of
naphtha.
There was no insurance.
The Iowa Recorder, Greene, IA 10 Jan
1912
