BAD FIRE IN ILLINOIS TOWN
St. LOUIS, Aug. 4. – A special to the
Post-Dispatch from Herrin, Ill., says:
The explosion of a gasoline stove in
Orr’s
restaurant today started a fire that destroyed
that building and ten adjoining frame
structures, including
Marshall, Craigs and
Chambers
saloons, Dickey
and Marlow’s
grocery store and Carr’s
drug store, Bray’s
barbershop, Bunch’s
jewelry store, Toll’s
livery stable and
Clending’s blacksmith and machine
shops
Help from outside towns was secured and the
fire finally gotten under control with a loss of
$40,00. [sic]

Gasoline Causes Fire.
Herrin, Ills., Aug 4 – An explosion of a
gasoline stove in the
Orris restaurant today started a fire
which destroyed ten adjoining frame structures
with a loss of $40,000.
