Fire in Maysville
Maysville, Ky., Jan 31. -- the
Washington Opera House and the Mason County
Library building, full of rare books and
prehistoric relics, were burned and a number of
business houses more of less damaged. The loss
will approximate $50,000.

But one incident had marred the serene march
of Maysville's events. That was the
disastrous fire of January 30, 1898, when was
destroyed the Opera House and
Parker's
Livery Stable. Today the fully equipped
and efficient fire departments of the city
render impossible continuation of such costly
conflagrations.
