D. H. Maloney's Block Fire
March 3, 1896
A DISASTROUS FIRE.
The Fire Department Called to Centre Street
Twice Today.
Fire was discovered at 11:36 this morning in the
tenement in D. H.
Maloney’s block on Center street
occupied by Peter
Harrington. The fire originated in a
bedroom and the cause is unknown.
Mr. Harrington’s
furniture was wholly destroyed. Loss, about
$1,000; no insurance.
The fire was believed to be out and two
companies had returned to the hose rooms when a
blaze was discovered in the attic of the
tenement adjoining Mr.
Harrington’s in the same block, and
occupied by Mrs. Honora
McConnell. The loss to her furniture
was complete. No insurance.
The saloon of D. H.
Maloney & Co. and
Harrington Bros.’
market on the first floor were flooded with
water.
The loss to the building is estimated at $5,000.
