Geneva, Nebraska Tornado

June 5, 1908

Rescue Parties Forming.

Geneva, Neb., June 6. -- Rescue parties are today being formed to investigate the condition in and around this place since the visitation of the tornado which killed two and injured many persons late yesterday.  As yet details of the disaster are meager.  It is known, however, that a mile west of here the farm buildings of John Shively were entirely destroyed.  Shiveley's four-year-old daughter and a female servant were killed.  Shiveley was so severely injured that his recovery is doubtful.

It is reported that the path of the storm is strewn with injured.  The damage is estimated at between $100,000 and $200,000.

The Marion Daily Star,  Marion, OH, 6 Jun 1908

DEATH RODE THE STORM

Tornado in Nebraska Worse than at First Reported

Omaha. Neb., June 8 -- Reports from the scenes of Friday night's storm in southern Nebraska indicate that the conditions are even worse than first reported.  The death list will doubtless reach twenty-five or twenty-six, while the number of injured increase as reports of havoc wrought by the storm become known.....

Eight Nebraska towns suffered from the effects of the tornado, Geneva, Fairfield and Carleton being the worst wrecked.

The Daily Northwestern, Oshkosh, WI 8 Jun 1908

At Geneva the storm wrought great destruction and in the adjacent country claimed five victims, two of whom were killed outright and three fatally injured.

The Daily Review, Decatur, IL 7 Jun 1908
