CRUSHED BENEATH LUMBER
One Fireman Killed and Two Badly Hurt at Concord
Fire
Concord, N. H., July 28.--Spurred on by the
promise of a baseball game after supper a large
number of convicts at the state prison here
rendered heroic service in fighting a fire which
burned four large buildings in the prison
grounds and caused about $100,000 loss.
One fireman, Amos
Turner, was killed, and two others,
Philip O’Connell
and Clarence Clark.
were seriously injured in fighting the flames.
Turner was crushed by a pile of lumber which
fell on him.
Sparks from a shifting engine are believed to
have caused the fire which originated in a big
wooden storehouse containing 50,000 prison made
chairs.
