Town Hall In Hampton Razed by Fire
STATE AP NEWS
Hampton, March 19---The Hampton town
hall, a 153-year-old structure, was destroyed
early today by fire.
THE 2½ story wooden building on Beach rd
originally was a Congregational church but has
been used as the town hall since 1843.
Town records were in a fire proof vault but
firemen were unable to reach them because of the
intense heat. Only the outer walls were standing
when the flames were brought under control.
[ineligible] expressed the belief the fire
started near a hot [ineligible] furnace on the
first floor. There was a dance in the hall last
night.
[ineligible] [ineligible] planned to hold a
special meeting to act in the [ineligible].
