Hoffmans, NY Train Wreck
August 20, 1902
FATAL TRAIN WRECK.
Schenectady, N. Y., Aug. 20.--Four men were
killed, one seriously injured and a score
slightly injured near Hoffman’s ferry, ten miles
from this city, tonight by the breaking in half
of a New York Central freight train and the
subsequent crashing of the rear half into the
front, which had stopped. The dead are all
trainmen.

WRECKED TRAIN
Owing to Collision and One Man Was Killed.
Schenectady N. Y., Aug 23--A bad wreck
occurred near Hoffman’s at midnight in which
John H Heskins
a workman in the Albany round house met instant
death. A train of empty passenger coaches which
was running west collided with an east bound
freight and shattered cars were strewn across
four tracks completely blocking traffic. The
wreck took fire, the flames spreading rapidly.
All of the trains crew have been accounted for
some being badly hurt but none fatally.
