MISS KNEELAND OF SKANEATELES IS KILLED BY
TROLLEY
Special to The Syracuse Herald
Skaneateles, Sept. 22 –
Miss Jessie KNEELAND,
55 years old, of Skaneateles, was killed by an
Auburn & Syracuse electric car at Dando’s
crossing a mile east of the village at 5 o’clock
yesterday afternoon. She was struck by the
limited car which leaves Syracuse at 4:10
o’clock. Several Syracuse commuters to
Skaneateles were on board.
With Miss Julia
EDWARDS, Miss KNEELAND had been
visiting friends near Dando crossing. She was
nearing the tracks as the limited approached.
Believing that the car was a local and that it
would stop at the station she started across the
tracks. She was struck just as she was stepping
over the outside rail, and was thrown high into
the air.
As soon as the car was stopped and the prostrate
woman reached, it was seen that her injuries
would prove fatal. She was lifted to the rear
platform and taken to the office of
Dr. G.E. CLARK
of Skaneateles. Dr. CLARK pronounced the
woman dead.
Miss KNEELAND
was a daughter of the late
Samuel Stillman KNEELAND. She lived
all her life in this village, her home being in
Academy Street. She is survived by two sisters,
Miss Frances KNEELAND and
Mrs. William T. THORNE.
