PUNXY LOSS GREAT FROM WEEKS FLOOD AND
CLOUDBURST
One Life Lost and Thousands in Damage to
Property When Stream Leave Banks
Streets of Town are Submerged by Downpour to
Depth of Several Feet and Mines Filled Until
Work is Stopped for a Few Days.
The torrential rains which flooded Clearfield
county the first of this week are reported to
have done several thousand dollars worth of
damage at Punxsutawney by flooding the streets
to a depth of several feet, and filling the
mines to such an extent that work had to be
suspended.
One life is reported to have been lost. The five
year old son of Peter
Ropinski at Anita near Punxsutawney
met death by drowning in Elk Run which swept the
boy away before help could be called. The body
was recovered.
