ACCIDENT MARS YAKIMA PARADE; BOY IS KILLED
Yakima, Wash., May 19.-AP-A youth was
fatally injured and at least 37 other persons
injured here today when a crumbling cornice
plunged about 40 parade spectators two stories
to the crowded street below.
Victor Russ,
18, of Wapato, was fatally injured when the mass
of falling brick, twisted steel and humanlly
[sic] crashed upon the street throng.
Dick Candriel,
30, of Yakima, was critically injured. He was
struck while standing on the sidewalk, and his
recovery was considered doubtful by doctors.
Some of the others were believed possibly
fatally hurt.
The tragedy marked the closing event of a
pioneer day celebration, climaxed by the mile
long parade.
