Wisconsin Drownings

4th Holiday, 1932
Milwaukee, Wis., July 5 --(UP)--
Thirteen accidental deaths marred Independence
day celebrations in Wisconsin over the week-end.
Six person were drowned....
Drownings
Roy Groenka,
24, Racine.
Paul Gromowski,
40, Marinette.
Emil Klesmit,
19, Polonia.
Miss Edna Hartwig,
22, Milwaukee
Ralph Hoffman,
21, Milwaukee.
Erwin Brausen,
15, Madison.
Fewer Drownings Than Usual
Drownings were fewer than usual because the
rain and cold kept many families away from lakes
and rivers Sunday.
A double tragedy occurred at Crooked lake,
Oconto county, where
Miss Hartwig and
Hoffman lost
their lives less than 300 feet from shore.
They had been riding in a canoe which
overturned. Eugene
Meyer, 20, son of Assemblyman
Emil Meyer,
Milwaukee, almost drowned in an effort to save
them.
Washed from Schooner
Groenka
was drowned in Lake Michigan after being washed
from the 36-foot schooner, Helena. He and
six companions were returning to Racine from the
yacht races in Milwaukee.
Klesmit
fell from a boat while fishing in Lake Emily,
Portage County.
A guide in Marinette county,
Gromowski
drowned in Rose lake while conducting a group of
Chicago businessmen on a fishing trip.
Brausen,
an inmate of the St. Charles home for boys at
Wauwatosa, was sucked under at the Hoyt park
swimming pool there.
Went Swimming Too Soon, Drowns
Milwaukee, July 5 --(UP)-- A post
mortem examination showed that
Erwin Brausen,
15, a resident of the St. Charles home for boys,
Wauwatosa, drowned Saturday because he went in
swimming too soon after dinner.
Dr. W. T. Brussock
said today. Brausen came to the home from
Madison.
