FIRE AT BERLIN.
The Smith Block Badly Damaged by an
Early-Morning Fire.
Berlin, Wis., May 18.--[Special]--The
Smith block,
one of the most substantial buildings in the
main part of this city, was badly gutted by
fire, which broke out on the second floor at an
early hour this morning. The first floors were
occupied by George W.
Morton’s saloon and
H. Brunsman’s barber shop and the
second floor as apartments by
D. Fero, George W.
Morton and
S. Whitcomb. Most of the contents of
the building were destroyed. The losses on the
building and contents will probably be $5,000,
probably covered by insurance.
