Plainfield, Wisconsin Fire

Plainfield,
Wis., July 6--In a fire which broke out here
at 11 o'clock Tuesday evening this village has
sustained a loss that is estimated at $40,000.
The fire swept the north side of Main Street
from the Walker block westward, wiping out of
existence about 15 buildings, including some of
the leading business houses, besides barns and
other outbuildings.
Among the principal businesses burned out
were the following:
Barden's drug store
Bentley & Youngman's saloon
Rees'
restaurant
Gustin's meat market and ice house
Buchanan Johnson's law office
A.
Cohen's residence.
The
Union Telephone exchange and warehouse,
destroying all local and long distance phone
connections in the village.
The
village water station and old village jail.
Smart's blacksmith shop.
The Walker store building was badly damaged
by fire and the axes of firemen, and the stock
was almost ruined by water.
This is the third disastrous fire experienced
by Plainfield within a few years.
