STRUCK BY LIGHTNING

Church Edifice at Hollandtown Destroyed.

Kaukauna, Wis., June 14.
--[Special.]--St Francis’ Catholic church at Hollandtown was struck by lightning about 2 o’clock this morning and destroyed by fire. The pastor, Father De Lowns, and his assistant, Father Vanderolsen, were absent at Green Bay at the time. There was insurance of $10,000 on the building and contents, which were valued at $25,000. There has been a Catholic church at Hollandtown since 1850. And the building destroyed this morning was erected in 1870 by John O’Keefe of Appleton.

Effect of the Terrible Electrical Disturbances Are Daily in Evidence--Destroyed Edifice Was 5 Miles From Kaukauna.

(Special to The Northwestern.)

Kaukauna, Wis., June 14.--At two o’clock this morning, during the progress of the severe thunder storm, St. Francis Catholic church at Hollandtown, five mile from this city, was struck by lightning and entirely destroyed by fire which followed. The structure was valued, with contents, at $25,000, and an insurance of $10,000 was carried. The pastor Rev. Father De Lowns, and assistant pastor, Father Vanderolsen, were in Green Bay at the time and returned this morning only to find the costly house of worship in ruins. There has been a Catholic church at Hollandtown since 1850, the structure just destroyed having been built in 1870 by John O’Keefe of Appleton. The congregation of 230 families will be temporarily without a place of worship.
