Stevens Point, Wisconsin Storm

WAS DESTRUCTIVE STORM
Lightning, Wind and Hail Visit This
Locality, But Other Sections of the State Fare
Far Worse.
Last week will go down in history as a
destructive on for the state of Wisconsin, in so
far as lightning, hail and wind storms are
concerned. Portage county did not entire
escape, nor did the city of Stevens Point.
Thursday evening just before it was time for the
fireworks at the South Side, a heavy storm came
up, accompanied by a display of lightning that
was almost continuous for a half hour or more,
and during this time it struck several buildings
in this city, including a large brick smoke
stack at the Sixth Ward School, tearing off a
number of brick and cracking the stack from top
to the roof, a distance of eight or ten feet.
The chimney on the residence of
Sam Iverson,
at the corner of Normal avenue and George
street, was also struck and several bricks torn
away, while the residence of Simpson Todd on
Patch street, near Forest cemetery, was slightly
damaged.
