Fireman ANTONE SCHEMICK of Green Bay and Engineer MATHEW FOLEY are the Victims of Collision on the St. Paul Line – No Passengers are Injured – Eight People Killed at Ashtabula, O., When coal train Strikes Street Car.

(Special to the Northwestern)

Green Bay, Wis., Dec. 17. – Fireman ANTONE SCHEMICK of Green Bay was killed outright and Engineer MATHEW FOLEY of Milwaukee died of his injuries, the result of passenger train No. 2 of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul railway from the copper country, running into a freight train at Kiel early today.

While none of the passengers was seriously injured, a number were said to have been badly shaken up.

NO PASSENGERS HURT

Superintendent Hastings returned from Kiel this noon and reported no passengers had been injured. The track is almost cleared of the wreckage.

SCHEMICK, the dead fireman, was married about a year ago. FOLEY was a veteran in the service of the road.

A third body, that of ALBERT ALLARD of Wayside, Wis., was later found in the wreck. The accident was caused by the engine of an extra freight train moving on a side track where it did not clear the main track.

Among those injured are P. F. Honey, mail clerk of Superior, Wis., and Comet Bennette, a passenger, Santa, Wis. The injuries will not prove fatal.

The Daily Northwestern, Oshkosh, WI 17 Dec 1912
