THREE MEN BURN TO DEATH IN HOTEL FIRE

BUSINESS SECTION OF WEST VIRGINIA TOWN HARD HIT BY FLAMES

CRESTON, W. Va., March 27-- Three men were burned to death today when fire destroyed the Stephen hotel.

Gas leaking into the basement of the hotel exploded.  The dead:

ERNEST STEPHEN, proprietor of the hotel

LINDSAY TRICHER.

HERMEN MEHL.

At noon, two hours after the blaze started, eleven buildings in the business section were in flames.  The loss at that time was estimated at $100,000.

FIVE HOTEL PATRONS ARE BURNED TO DEATH

PARKERSBURG, W. VA., March 28. -- Five persons were burned to death in a fire which destroyed the Stephens Hotel and ten other buildings at Creston, Wirt County, early yesterday.  The identified dead are:  Ernest and Lindsey Stephens and Mrs. Henan [Herman?] Mehl.  The fire originated in the hotel, believed to have been caused by a leaking gas pipe.  The loss was estimated at $75,000.

Of the identified bodies, one is a man, the other a woman. Both hotel patrons.
