Metropolitan Building in Washington is Ruined by Flames.

Washington, Dec. 23.----Fire here completely destroyed the interior of the home of the Metropolitan club, one of the best known social organizations in the world and one of the most exclusive clubs in this country. The fire started shortly before daybreak and caused a loss of $135,- It was due to a spark from an electric wire. The valuable painting of the club were saved, and so was the library. The Metropolitan club was established in 1866. It first president was the late William W. Corcoran, and its first vice president General William T. Sherman. Undar[sic] a rule of the club all ambassadors and ministers are honorary members, and the president always heads the list of honorary members Grover Cleveland is among the honorary list. The club has more members scattered about the country than any other.
