Brakeman Killed In Train Wreck

QUITMAN, Ga., June 19 -- Oscar Mullinax, brakeman, was killed and two other trainmen injured today in the wreck of a South Georgia railway freight train which left the tracks on a curve.

Engineer C. W. Crews was seriously hurt and Fireman Kid Granger was scalded.

The freight carried only three trainmen. It was en route north of Quitman to load 20 cars with watermelons.

Mullinax jumped as the engine left the rails on a fill at the curve.  The fill had be softened by rain.  The brakeman's body was buried under the engine and tender.  Nine freight cars overturned.

The south Georgia railway hauls freight between Adel, Ga., and Perry, Fla.
