TALBOTTON HAS PAIR OF FIRES
Two Conflagrations Visit the Talbot County City in One Day.
THE FIRST IS CHECKED WITH SLIGHT DAMAGE
The Second Proves More Disastrous, Entailing a Loss of About $30,000-There Was Very Little Insurance on the Burned Buildings.
Talbotton Ga April 1-(Special) Talbotton had two fires today. Early this morning the alarm of fire was given. It was found to be the residence of MR. F. EISMAN. The fire brigade acted promptly and very little damage was done.
At 8 30 o'clock this evening there occured the most destructive fire this town has had for several years. Fire broke out between two unoccupied stores owned by AMOS LEONARD and MISS MARY MATHEWS. The colored people were having a frolic and it seems the fire originated from this point.
R. WIND's store was burned, also the store formerly occupied by F. EISMAN, which is now used for storing his bankrupt stock. The store of J. L. JOHNSON was also burned.
A considerable amount of goods were saved but were badly damaged. The loss is about $30,000, with very little insurance.
