Killed At High School Fire.

Wall Falls on Fireman at a $100,000 Blaze at Galesburg, Ill.

Galesburg, Ill., April 10.-Fire, which started early this evening in the basement of the Galesburg High School, resulted in the total destruction of the building.

JOHN SLATER, a fireman, was killed by a falling wall.

The loss is $100,000, fully covered by insurance.

Fire Burns School And Destroys Life.

Galesburg high Goes Up in Smoke; Fireman Slater Killed.

Galesburg, Ill., April 10.-Fire which broke out early this evening in the basement of the Galesburg high school resulted in the total destruction of the building. JOHN SLATER, a fireman, was instantly killed by a falling wall The loss is estimated at $100,000, fully covered by insurance.

The fire caught in the furnace room and gained a great start when discovered. The flames communicated to the manual training department adjoining and spread rapidly to the other floors.

Breaking out through the roof the sparks threatened the large seminary for women of Knox college and the college chapel. The entire fighting force of the city with the volunteer force of the Burlington railroad fought the flames, which at midnight they succeeded in confining to the high school building.
