Wilmington, IL Dynamite Maims Two Boys, June 1912

Fishermen's Sons Find Cap in River and Not Knowing Its Nature, They Try to Burn it.

Wilmington, IL., June 25 - Explosion of a dynamite cap they fished out of the Kankakee River near here caused serious injury to two fishermen's sons living in a mussel digging camp near here.

The injured are: Clarence Bower, aged 14 years, two fingers missing. Elmer Smith, aged 16 years, forehead bruised.

Bower fished the dynamite cap, which was probably lost last spring when the ice gorge near Mud Turtle Island was blown up, out of the river and without knowing its nature tried to burn it, upon reaching land and without warning the cap exploded. Both are now under the care of a surgeon. They will recover.
