Jacksonville, IL Head On Collision Kills Five, Nov 1956
FIVE IN FAMILY KILLED IN CRASH AT JACKSONVILLE.
Jacksonville - (AP) - Five members of a Jacksonville family were killed today in a head-on collision on State Route 36, 12 miles east of Jacksonville. Two other persons were injured.
State Police identified the dead as:
THEODORE H. ZIMMER, about 60;
his wife, CLARICE;
their son, JOHN, 26;
JOHN'S wife, BONNIE, 25;
and their son, KENNETH, 4.
Police said the Zimmer automobile collided with one driven by WILLIAM CLAYTON, 21, Jacksonville, near New Berlin. CLAYTON and a passenger in his car, CHARLES BOATMAN, 23, also of Jacksonville, were injured.
CLAYTON was taken to Our Savoir Hospital, Jacksonville, where doctors described his condition as "satisfactory." The extent of his injuries was not disclosed. BOATMAN, suffering from a fractured leg and chest injuries, was taken to Memorial Hospital in Springfield.
Police said there were no witnesses to the accident, which occurred about 4:45 a.m.
