Gladstone, Ill., Sept. 13 (UPI) - Eight persons, including six members of one family, were killed early yesterday in a head-on collision on a curve on U.S. 34 near Gladstone.
The victims include a father, his three children and the children's maternal grandparents. The wife survived the two-car crash.
The dead were identified as JAMES E. SIX, 37 years old, Pekin, Ill.; his children, DEBRA K., 16; RANDY, 15, and AMY SUE, 4; and GARRY KELLOGG, 21, and JEANNE M. CURTIS, 20, both of Monmouth, Ill., and MRS. SIX'S parents, LYLE H. STANBROUGH, 60, and his wife MYRTLE, 60, of Ollie, Ia.
The SIX car was westbound, rounding a curve when it was apparently hit by a car eastbound in the westbound lane. The second car carried KELLOGG and MISS CURTIS, police said. Gladstone is about 10 miles northeast of Burlington, Ia.
MRS. SIX, the only survivor, was hospitalized in Burlington, where officials said she had suffered a broken back. She was listed in fair condition.
