Monticello, IN Woman Killed in Crash, Jun 1971
WANDA HUGHES, a Monticello resident, was killed and another seriously injured in a car-truck accident 500 feet east of the Monticello city limits on U.S. 24 at 12:02a.m. Thursday.
The victim, Mrs. WANDA HUGHES, 54, of Rt. 5, Monticello, was dead on arrival at the White County Hospital in Monticello. White County Coroner G.L. CHANDLER Jr., attributed her death to multiple head and chest injuries.
Reported in fair condition Thursday at White County Hospital, was Mrs. ANN TAWLOSKI, 42, of Passaic, NJ., a passenger in a semi-trailer truck driven by DONALD I. POST, 48, of Clifton, NJ.
Mrs. Tawloski sustained a fractured left shoulder, injuries to he eyes, a possible back injury, and multiple bruises and abrasions, according to State Police at the Lafayette Post.
Officers said Post was driving his sheet-steel laden semi west on U.S. 24, and as he rounded a curve at the end of the Freeman Bridge the tractor and trailer overturned on top of the eastbound auto driven by Mrs. Hughes.
Investigating officers include State Troopers JOHN JETT and R. SHIREMAN, Monticello City Police, and the White County Sheriff's Department.
