Leonard HARVEY Killed By Falling Roof

Leonard HARVEY, an aged farmer near Freetown, met with a fatal accident last Wednesday, having his head crushed and neck broken by a falling roof.

John WAGGONER was engaged in tearing down a smokehouse and was cutting the roof in two sections. Mr. HARVEY was standing on a plank across some joist watching him Suddenly and without warning the roof parted, the north half of the roof sliding off and the south half dropped on the joist. Mr. WAGGONER jumped and saved himself from injury, but Mr. HARVEY'S head was caught between the falling roof and a joist, and he was practically hung, as his feet did not touch the floor.

Mr. WAGGONER managed to raise the roof to release him and the body fell to the floor. Mr. WAGGONER saw that the man's head was badly crushed and ran to the nearest neighbors for assistiance. Dr. DAVIS was also sent for and he found that Mr. HARVEY'S skull was crushed and his neck was broken, which no doubt caused instant death.

Coroner Jesse DOWDEN held an inquest and rendered a verdict of accidental death in accordance with the above fact.
