Fire Destroys Iowa Hotel
Man Jumps From Fire Escape and is Seriously Injured
Iowa City, Ia., Jan. 9.-Fire of unknown origin destroyed the St. James hotel block here with a loss of approximately $60,000.
Guests of the hotel narrowly escaped death when they were forced to the street in night clothing.
W. J. Rutherford of Nennah, Wis., jumped from a fire escape and was seriously injured.

[Note: Apparently, the hotel wasn't a total loss. Damage from the $60,000 fire must have been repaired. The hotel was destroyed five years later in a $350,000 fire. Read about it here
