Sioux City, IA Head On Crash Kills Four, Dec 1957

4 IOWA GIRLS KILLED IN CRASH.

Sioux City, Iowa (AP) - A head-on collision on
"Roller Coaster Road" near Sioux City Sunday night took the lives of four teenaged girls and brought injuries to five other teenagers.
It was one of Iowa's worst traffic tragedies of the year and was the first time four had died in a single 1957 crash since Nov. 6 when a similar toll resulted from a collision near Knoxville.
The four Sioux City deaths were among eight reported over the weekend and they brought Iowa's 1957 motor vehicle toll to 682, only 10 less than on the same date a year ago.
The accident occurred at the crest of a hill just east of the city limits on a hilly, gravel road which some young folks like to travel because of its steep dips and rises.
The girls killed were identified as:
MARVEL MURDOCK, 14;
SHARON BRATT, 17;
GERALDINE CHAPEL, 14;
and PHYLLIS STOTT, 16, all of Sioux City.
