Arcadia, IA Tornado Hits Several Towns, May 1918
15 DEAD, 100 HURT IN IOWA STORM.
Des Moines, Iowa, May 22 -- Fifteen dead and probably 100 injured is believed today to have been
the toll of the tornado which swept eastward yesterday afternoon through central Iowa. The property damage is estmated at more than a million dollars.
Reports on the dead are:
The town of Arcadia, west of Boone, which felt the heaviest fury of the storm, is reported wiped off the map. The storm appeared to have traveled in three section. It struck at Moingona first, then moved eastward following the northwestern railroad to Boone. From there it jumped southeast and struck Newton. Then it moved northeast, striking Roland and Pickering.
The stomr at Dubuque was distinct from that which struck Boone.
