El Dorado, KS Two Car Collision, Nov 1975


El Dorado, Kan. (AP) - Nine persons were killed, including a family of five from Missouri, in the head-on collision Sunday of two cars at the top of a hill on U.S. Highway 54 about 8 miles east of El Dorado.
The Kansas Highway Patrol said a car headed west with six persons from Missouri collided with an eastbound car with three persons from Wichita. All occupants of both cars were dead at the scene.
Butler County Sheriff Dave Williams identified the dead in the Missouri car as NORMAN F. SCHMIDT, 38; CAROLYN SCHMIDT, no age; CHERRY SCHMIDT, 16; MELODY SCHMIDT, 11, and SHELLEY SCHMIDT, 17, all of Harwood, Mo., and YOLANDA NICHOLS, 16, of Shell City, Mo.
The Wichita victims were identified as DOROTHY F. BROWN, 60; her husband, SAMUEL E. BROWN, 69; and WILLIAM BROWN, 39.
El Dorado is in south central Kansas, 21 miles east of Wichita.
