Slidell, LA Truck And Auto Collision, Mar 1951

SEVERAL KILLED IN CRASH NEAR SLIDELL LOUISIANA.

Slidell, La., March 23 - (AP) - Three Laurel, Miss., electrical workers lost their lives and a fourth was injured when their truck collided with an automobile on U.S. Highway 11 four miles north of Slidell, La.
The dead, all of Laurel, were identified as:
SHEREL D. JEFFCOATES, 41.
FOREST MITCHELL WALTERS, 30.
IVAN FRANCIS MERZ, 32.
B. L. BLAKLEDGE, 27, who identified himself as the driver of the truck, was taken to Charity Hospital in New Orleans suffering from multiple contusions and fractures of his left wrist, shoulder and hand.
JEFFCOATES was dead when removed from the wreckage. WALTERS and MERZ died shortly after being admitted to Charity Hospital.
None of the occupants of the car was injured. State Trooper W. R. Allen identified the driver of the car as JOHNNY B. WILLIAMS, Negro, 32, route one, Pearl River.
Allen said WILLIAMS was charged with negligent homicide. The four Laurel men were employees of the city electrical shop in that city.
