Lafayette, LA Car Plunges Into Bayou, Nov 1957
CAR'S PLUNGE DROWNS SEVEN IN BAYOU.
Lafayette, La., Nov. 10 (AP) - Seven persons drowned today when an automobile crashed through a bridge railing and fell into Bayou St. Claire.
Sheriff Mayo Harson said the car struck the wooden railing near the middle of the bayou and plunged into 12 feet of water.
Harson said the victims were all Negroes.
He identified them as:
LUCIEN, FELLS, 37, believed to have been driving the car;
and his wife, CLAUDIA, 37, of Scott;
JOHN BROUSSARD, 22, of Carencro;
JOE ARDENCEAUX, 30;
his wife, LIVIONIA, 28;
and their two sons, WILBERT, 10, and GERALD, 8, all of Carencro.
