$10,000 Fire Guts Ford Garage
The showroom of the uncompleted Ford Agency Garage in West Denton was gutted by fire Wednesday morning in a spectacular blaze necessitating the assistance of fire companies from two neighboring towns.
Scaffolding, on which carpenters were adding finishing touches to the large garage, collapsed, overturning an oil heater and setting off a blaze which would have proved to have been even more destructive had not the prompt action of the Denton Volunteer Fire Company and companies from Ridgely and Cordova brought it under control.
Two alarms sounded to call apparatus from this fire to combat a grass blaze on South Second street which was discovered to be controlled burning; whereupon all were returned to clean up at the scene of the former fire.
A $10,000 loss figure was given by fire officials and it is estimated that three weeks labor will be required to again ready the showroom for operations that were to begin Thursday.
