Ocean City, MD Automobile Crash, Jul 2005
WIFE OF POPULAR RADIO HOST KILLED IN CRASH.
Ocean City - It's a sad day for many radio listeners. Maryland State Police say 50-year-old FREDA WRIGHT-SORCE was killed after her Lexus was hit by an SUV on Maryland Route 90 near Saint Martin's Neck Road. SORCE was the wife of Mark Sorce who was known as Don Geronimo, one half of the nationally syndicated "Don and Mike Show." It airs locally on 96 Rock. WRIGHT-SORCE was a frequent guest on the show.
The accident happened Sunday afternoon. Police say ten cars were involved in a series of rear end collisions. Then, according to police, a Ford Explorer driven by Jevgenijs Dunajevskis, 22, of Berlin, Md., swerved left to avoid those accidents. That's when he crossed the median and struck WRIGHT-SORCE'S Lexus in the eastbound lanes.
WRIGHT-SORCE was flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore where she died from her injuries. Dunajevskis was treated and released from Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
At that section of Route 90, where the crash occurred, there's an opening in the barrier that separates the road. State Highway officials say that's to allow motorists to turn in and out of Saint Martin's Neck Road.
On Monday, the Don and Mike Show aired a tribute to FREDA. They called it a "devastating" loss. In addition to her husband, SORCE is survived by her college age son, Bart. The family lived in Virginia but also maintained a vacation home in Ocean City.
Meantime, the police are continuing to investigate the crash.
