Hurdock, MA Schoon WAR EAGLE Explosion, Sept 1887

A Naptha{sic} Explosion.

BOSTON, Sept. 7.--An explosion occurred this morning on board the schooner War Eagle, loaded with naptha{sic}, at Hurdock. The vessel was completely burned, together with the bridge and Platt & Washburn's factory adjoining. A man named Henry O'Donnel, on board the schooner was burned to death. The steward, name unknown, jumped overboard and was drowned. The captain and mate were badly burned. They were sent to the hospital. Four longshoremen were more or less burned. Loss, $42,000.
