Boston, MA Mystic River Bridge Accident, Apr 1870

SERIOUS RAILROAD ACCIDENT.----On Thursday, a fatal accident occurred on the Boston and Maine Railroad, three of four miles from Boston. Three women, Mrs. JOSEPH DORAN, Ann Dolan and another, were walking on the track, and while on the bridge over the Mystic river between Somerville and Edgeworth, the train met them. and the engine struck two of them, the third fortunately being just far enough away to escape the danger. Mrs. DORAN was thrown over the bridge guards and into the river, and the Dolan woman was knocked down and had both legs horribly mangled, one being broken in two places, beside receiving other injuries. Mrs. DORAN is supposed to have been killed by the blow or so stunned as to have sunk and drowned.
