Sunday Fire Guts Building In Ashley Falls

SHEFFIELD—A fire in Ashley Falls on Sunday morning gutted the building known as the Old Red Barn, containing the apartment of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ingram.

The fire occurred about 8:30 Sunday morning and was under control before noon, according to Sheffield Fire Chief Frank A. Smith. The blaze was fought by firefighters from Canaan, Conn., and Sheffield. Each town responded to the call with three trucks. There were about 60 firemen in all.

Smith said the cause of the blaze was probably ashes from a wood stove thrown into a trash can. The Ingrams were in their apartment at the time of the fire but were safety evacuation.
