Romulus, MI House Fire, Jan 1994

18 January 1994 in sub zero weather Romulus Fire Department was called to 29785 Van Born Road at 3.55 AM for a house fire. On arrival fire fighters found the rear of the home totally involved in flames and found three persons who had escaped the fire by leaping off a second floor balcony and standing in night clothing. Dimple Choate Age-57, Dillard Choate Age-59 Matt Choate Age-30 were all transported by Ambulance to Annapolis Hospital in Wayne. A fire from a kerosene space heater blocked the exit for Robert Choate Age-12, Stephaine Choate Age-4 and Vivian Choate all of which were killed in the fire. Fire Chief William Greenslat stated the heater in the basement had erupted and the fire blocked the hallway which was the exit for the children. Romulus Police Officer Kenny Landstrom was over come by smoke and transported to Annapolis Hospital in Wayne, Fire Marshal David Allison did the investigation to the cause of the fire.
