Austin, MN Bus And Truck Collision, Feb 1951
15 AUSTIN CRASH VICTIMS REMAIN IN HOSPITAL.
Austin, Minn. -- (AP) -- Fifteen persons, three of them still in critical condition, remained in an Austin hospital today following Monday's early-morning bus-truck crash that killed two women.
Meanwhile DR. B. J. CRONWELL, Mower county coroner, indefinitely postponed an inquest into the crash, which occurred on a fog-covered, slippery highway about four miles north of here.
The inquest, originally set for Thursday evening, will be delayed to allow now hospitalized witnesses to testify.
On the critical list yet were:
MRS. JAMES PRESCOTT, 20, Shreveport, La.
LOUIS SWEHLA, 50, Austin.
CAROLYN MATTHEWS, 23, Albert Lea.
SWEHLA and MISS MATTHEWS were somewhat improved.
Killed in the collision were:
MRS. MILDRED E. FISCHER, 62, Waconia, Minn.
MRS. LEONARD J. BRECHT, 45, Minneapolis.
Authorities said WILLIAM PULRANG, 37, driver of the Jefferson bus, told them he failed to see the semitrailer truck which had run out of gasoline and was awaiting a supply. PULRANG said no flares had been set out.
