Fire Menaces 350 Students

Schoolhouse At Tracy, Minn., Is Destroyed and Loss is About $16,000

Tracy, Minn., March 1.-A disastrous fine in what is known as the old school house here yesterday afternoon resulted in a total loss estimated at about $16,000, with insurance of $6,000 to $7,000. The school was in session, being occupied by about 350 pupils of the lower grade, all of whom were removed from the building without serious injury. The origin of the fire is not known, but it is thought the coal left a deposit in the chimney, resulting when this took fire, in an overheated chimney, which spread rapidly to the upper stories of the building and but little of the contents.

Work it is said probably will begin on a new modern fireproof structure in the spring, as the other building is filled to its capacity. The children will be accommodated in the opera house and churches until other quarters are provided.
